* Do you know what the CAA record is?

Suggested article: What is CAA record?

The Certification Authority Authorization or CAA record is a type of DNS record. It specifies who can issue a certificate for the specific domain. It could be set for one or more certificate issuers.

How to add a CAA record?

The key components of the CAA resource record are:

  • Flag – critical, not to issue a certificate or not critical to issue one
  • Type - issue, issuewild, iodef types of certificate available
  • Value – domain name of the company issuer – Certification Authority

When you are creating a CAA record, you can decide if it is responsible for the whole domain or just for a particular hostname. You can set the values for example.com, and it will automatically apply for subdomain.example.com.
